About Cantis

It's not what you say. It's how you say it.

Cantis is an app that helps people communicate better with each other. It gets to know who you are writing to and suggests how to adjust your message to better suit the recipient.

Most of us write how we like to write, and don't think about how the person reading it likes to communicate. Everyone's communication preferences are unique. A two-line reply can come across as rude, or a fair question can read as an accusation. When a message is not written with the recipient's communication preferences in mind, it's much more likely that person will apply the wrong tone or meaning to it, and the result can be a damaged working relationship, the loss of a client or, worse, a legal dispute.

Cantis also flags the things that cause trouble regardless of who is reading, like passive aggression, contempt or shutting someone out. And it picks up messages that could turn into an HR or legal problem, as well as company information that is about to leave the business.

What it does

Cantis works inside Outlook and Teams on Windows.

Who it is for

People whose work depends on how they come across in writing. Freelancers, contractors and consultants first, and anyone who writes to clients, colleagues and suppliers every day, where one message read in the wrong tone can strain a relationship or lose business.

Your coaching is for your eyes only

Cantis is a tool for the person using it, not a way to check up on them. The app does not share your coaching with anyone else in your business, and we never sell anyone's data. The privacy notice sets out exactly what the app does with your information.

Why it matters at work

Better communication means less friction, fewer misunderstandings and fewer follow-up emails. Teams work better together, and the work environment is more positive.

The founder

“Everyone has their own way of communicating. Like everything else, it's unique to that person, and very few of us are good at spotting how other people prefer to communicate.

Research shows people expect the tone of their emails to be read correctly about nine times in ten. In reality it's closer to six in ten. When an email is read in the wrong tone, that's where working relationships start to get harder, people stop enjoying their jobs, and eventually end up leaving.

When you take the friction out of those communications, people work better together, teams are more efficient and the work environment becomes much more positive. That's the purpose of Cantis.

People who have conflict at work are twice as likely to plan to leave, and replacing someone can cost a business more than £30,000. Better communication keeps good people, and a team that gets on gets more done.”
